One important element when it comes to strength training, sports or self defense is balance. In all these cases, balance will play a huge role in your performance. You want to have strong stabilizers muscles and be able to stay solid on your feet.
A great way to work your equilibrium is to perform the balance workout on a Swiss ball.
The first part of the exercise is to place your knees on the balance ball. You want to engage your core muscles and perform shadow boxing moves. The instability of the Swiss ball will work many of your muscles to stay balanced as you strike.
As you get more comfortable with this type of balance training and want to take it to the next level, you can stand up on the Swiss ball and perform shadow boxing. Be careful thought when doing this type of training, this is for advanced users only.
